Game 2015.97: Detroit at Boston

I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but if Alfredo Simon gives up less than 4 runs today it will be the first time since a miracle. His ERA over his last 7 games is 8.64, which somehow ranks him behind Verlander, Feliz, and Rondon, who could maybe combine to keep the LL WS team to under 5 runs in 7 innings, give or take a few runs. Lineups aren’t out yet, and I’m headed out on one of those group bicycle/drinking tours, so someone please update.

  1. Here’s tonite’s starting lineup, with BA:

    1. Davis, R, CF .261
    2. Kinsler, I, 2B .289
    3. Cespedes, Y, LF .288
    4. Martinez, V, DH .261
    5. Martinez, J, RF .283
    6. Castellanos, N, 3B .242
    7. Avila, A, 1B .198
    8. McCann, J, C .289
    9. Iglesias, J, SS .324

Like everyone, I have issues with our skipper, but I never knock Brad for his batting orders.
Iggy way down in the 9-hole? Sure, he loses a lot of ABs that way, but like I said, whenever you have 9-1-2 later in game, you have 2 solid lead-offs. And maybe 9-spot even agrees with Jose, more than 2-spot (I haven’t checked his #s).

  2. If you double all of Victors stats it will be as if he played all year. He would have a career low in almost every catagory and a career high in K’s..he used to stay off bad pitches and takes the BB..now he is as undisciplined as every other Tiger. And a career low in BB’s.

    1. Yeah, that’s disappointing about Victor’s uncharacteristic non-focus. But I have faith in him; Whatever’s bothering him, I think he’ll get untracked soon.

  3. First, a note about last nights loss. Why would you let Hardy get beat by their best hitter with first base open and a slumping left hand hitter on deck?

Looks like the Red Sox will need to set up the batting cage to keep the ball in play!

    Simon is now +2.

    1. The reason Captt Smarty will tell you they did what they did last night and let their best hitter beat them with Sandaval on deck is Ausmus is never wrong about those decisions and Hardy should have gotten him out.

  4. Great strategy by Avila swing at a 3rd strike so far out of the zone the catcher can’t get to it and run to first. Now that boy is always thinking!!!..When you project Avilas stas for the year they are also a career low in every catagory in an already dismal career.

  5. Simon looking great so far, hitting their bats with strikes. Averaging 10 pitches per.

  6. Casty nice rip!…Key RBIs…..and then pulls a high school mistake on the bases. But were used to him doing that!

  7. How bout this Swihart dude and all the past balls. He doesn’t bother stepping out and putting his body behind the ball. He just reaches out on all of them and misses. I understand the knuckleball. BUT you have to at least step out on all if these to try and block them. Thus guy never leaves his basic stance….Fundamentals!

  8. Interesting fact, at least to me, is the Tigers have struck out 40 times this week against non strike out pitchers ..I compared that to KC with 21 and the Yankees at 20( who I know do not K alot). And in the 40 I would guess at least 50-60% maybe more were pitches out of the strikes zone. Tigers are right in the middle if the AL in K’s but not this week. Another big reason for losing is that undiscipline we see on a daily basis!

  9. Can their be any doubt about McCann handling the catching duties and hitting .290…Meanwhile we get excited when Avila just makes a regular out instead of a K…..plus playing everyday now Avila’s projected HR and RBI numbers will be 4/19 for the year…come on Twins…you need him!

  10. This just in : Mark Krausse optioned to Toledo….he should be optioned to the Little Ceasers Slow Pitch softball team…
