Game 2014.140: Tigers at Indians

Unlike the previous game, last night’s game was not a story of blown chances; it was a game of no chances. The pitcher previously known as Justin Verlander (currently known as Worst Contract In Baseball) had a sub-Kyle outing, and the Tiger bats took the day off to golf.

Tonight the Tigers still have a chance to take the series, with Max “Hoping To Get the Worst Contract in Baseball” Scherzer on the mound against Trevor “Hope the Bats Don’t Wake Up or I’m Toast” Bauer.

Maybe it’s too early to peg this as a “let’s see what they’re made of” game, but…let’s see. And what’s with the Cleveland fans? They are still in a pennant race, and less than 10K last night?

Tyler Collins gets a rookie start tonight, and Hernan joins him at short.

Tonight’s Collins-All-Cars Lineup:

  1. Kinsler, 2B
  2. Collins, RF
  3. Cabrera, DH
  4. V Martinez, 1B
  5. JD Martinez, LF
  6. Castellanos, 3B
  7. Holaday, C
  8. Perez, SS
  9. Davis, CF

  1. How often have we seen this show? Early lead against a weak starter who should be out early. Then, crappy ABs and absentee offense coupled with clown show like defense which combine to let the other side creep back in. Hope I’m wrong (there is precedent for that).

    1. Davis is 5 steps on the outfield grass has the ball as the runner rounds third..safe at home…it just goes on and on and on!

  2. Hey Smarty, better take a peek at some of those stats. Torii Hunter is the worst pinch hitter in baseball (0-for-7, OPS .000).

    1. He is 1-15 as a starter so there isn’t much difference in this series anyway…at least 8 of the 14 outs balls not in the strikezone!

  3. The Tigers scored in their obligatory one inning this game…its a little much to expect them to score again!

  4. Just what the 5,000 fans wanted to see, extra innings, yawn. I hope we can pull this one out. They sent the old man to the mound.

  5. C’mon, Castellanos. How many times can we strike out with a runner on 3rd less than 2 out in 1 series? By the way, that was ball 4, by about a foot.

  6. Holaday is a joke. Hes a career minor leaguer and we have him bat in a crucial spot. Hes hitting 235. We cant find anyone better?

  7. If you actually thought the Tigers would score there raise your hand,!…
If you didn’t think Casstellanos would strike out for the 10000000 time he has been in that exact situation also raise your hand!!

  8. You would think the Tiger hitters would actually learn something from watching Martinez bat….its a shame that they don’t…..the failure to learn my old college coach used to say over and over!
    AMAZING!!!

  9. I like to (also) pay attention to what happens *after* a game is (essentially) won or lost. Romine’s 2-run single was a very nice piece of hitting. Davis’s catch in LF was absolutely sensational. It didn’t even look *possible* in real time. Johnson’s stuff was great.

Holaday throwing out Bourn – perfect throw to 2B – was huge earlier. Don’t overlook the great base running that set up and made it 6-4 (with help from Suarera, either). Great game. It almost got away.

  10. Game 140, Coleman. You’re making it too easy for me these days. (Thinking of “men on 1st and 4d.” First and Ford? Is that a street corner somewhere? Ir rings a bell. Could it be… It is! I recognize it from the cult classic “Unlawfully Married.”)

        1. Seriously, I see them on my posts on my laptop, but not on the same posts on the mobile version. What are you viewing on?

      1. Good point (second try).

I had my suspicions (the tweak).

Seriously – I’m viewing on a home-based desktop computer. What’s odd is that for some game posts, the edit button is there. Some others, not. First game of this series (I think), it’s there.

Does being logged on to the website have any effect? I mean, when you or I or Kevin are logged in, does the edit button for anyone else disappear? Or is there some missing setting that would knock out the edit button? That “tag” thing on the Dashboard, for instance? Grasping at straws here.

        1. We may be on to something. There are edit buttons on my posts this series, but not on my posts on your last White Sox post. I think we need to check with one of the non-admin folk here and see if they have edit buttons appearing. I’m afraid you may be carrying the non-edit virus.

          1. Not the non-edit virus! Sure, there are mediations to alleviate the discomfort, but it’s incurable. I’m going with denial as my first line of defense.

  11. People – are you seeing edit buttons on your comments? Noticing any irregularities pertaining thereto?
