Game 2014.135: Tigers at White Sox

Baseball Reference Game Preview

Kyle Ryan vs. Chris Bassitt

Ryan for DET and Bassitt for CHW will each be making their MLB debuts tonight.

I don’t have the patience to wait for the lineups, so I’ll throw out some guesses as to the changes. Avila will be back at C, of course. Romine at SS, Carrera in CF, Kelly at 3B, J.D. in RF, maybe? Something like that. Hunter might get rest tonight and Cabrera tomorrow, that’s what I’m thinking. We’ll see.

  1. Two Greenhorn rookies making their debut..Big game for the Tigers …That means Sox 6—Tigs 2…this will be too much for the Sluggos. After all they swung and missed so much getting shutout for 8 innings in the first game, they are tired!

  2. 1 Rajai Davis, LF
    2 Ian Kinsler, 2B
    3 Miguel Cabrera, 1B
    4 Victor Martinez, DH
    5 J.D. Martinez, RF
    6 Alex Avila, C
    7 Don Kelly, 3B
    8 Andrew Romine, SS
    9 Ezequiel Carrera, CF

Hunter gets a rest, Castellanos gets a rest, even Suarez gets a rest. But Ol’ Gimpy is still out there at first.

    1. I *totally* called that lineup! I wrote my guess right after Game 1 before they were up anywhere. Hurray for me.

  3. Verlander last night: 7 IP, 9 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 ER, 5 2B, CWS 0-7 RISP off of JV, JV had one inning w/o a base runner

    Scherzer today: 6 2/3, 9 H, 0 BB, 11 K, 5 ER, 1 2B, 2 HR, CWS 2-5 RISP off of Max, Max had 3 innings w/o a base runner

Scherzer didn’t pitch that much worse, JV got a little lucky last night. So goes baseball.

    1. Yeah, its a crazy game and you see something different every game.

  4. This dude has thrown 5-7 hanging curveballs, the Sluggos of course have taken every one of them including two to boy wonder Alex!

    1. Well he is out now. I guess .299 was the magic number that tripped a buzzer in Ausmus’ head.

  5. Hey Alex he got you last time with the same exact pitch that you took…he did it again….helllllooooo!

I am not sure whats worse watching Miggy at 50% or Avila at 100%!!

  6. Ryan is doing a great job of painting the outside corner. Comes inside once in awhile, but goes right back out there!

    1. Our #10 starter is better than their #10 starter. Encouraging, but we shouldn’t push our luck.

    1. Agreed but to me the real question is why the mis manager even gave him the ball to start the 8th?? Jaba is Mr. 8th and he was ready to pitch. This should make the bottom of the 9th quite interesting.

              1. Meanwhile, Joba gets a “Hold.” I think he would have gotten that by virtue of the bases-loaded situation, but he might have been thinking he had to allow some runs first.

Holds. Saves. Stats I don’t like. Wins (as a stat for pitchers) isn’t far behind.

  7. In his entire career Avila has never gotten a base hit in that spot of the field ….ever….cept today!…another big run!

As I type Donkey rips one!

          1. I thought you were going to come back with “pinch hitter,” which I could have easily countered with how Ausmus wouldn’t pinch hit with the team up 8-4. Yes, BOOBs were hot, but my feeling about Romine with 2 outs and men on is that he is sub-BOOB. Less than buxom.

  8. When rosters expand on Monday how about sitting Cabrera, install Kelly at first v RH pitching with V-Mart there against lefties. Miggy’s been a real liability lately, at bat and in the field, and having a few more bench hands would lessen the need for him to play every day and they couldn’t do any worse. True, options are kind of limited in the hitting dept at the minor league level, but the guy needs some serious time off, it’s only getting worse.

  9. CLE comes out on top, so we are tied for 1st. But you have to be a little wary of the Indians now too, who are only 3.5 back. Remember last year?
