Thursday Links and an Open Spring Training Thread

– Your ML best 5-0 Tigers rolled to another win yesterday.  Andy Oliver pitched 3 shutout innings, walking 3 and striking out 3, and Miggy hit is first bomb of the spring to go along with a slick play coming in on a ball at third.  Will they ever lose?

– This is a little late for AJax to learn how to bunt, no?  Fangraphs rates the Tigers’ CFers as 20th best in the league, behind some unimpressive competition.

– And in today’s most interesting yet least surprising news, 47 year old Jose Canseco will not be playing in the Mexican Baseball League this year because of doping allegations.

  1. On bunting: maybe they don’t teach this anymore. Does the use of aluminum bats at the lower levels (up through college) have anything to do with it? Speaking of the aluminum bat, how long before Selig brainstorms this for the pros?

    1. They are no longer uses in amateur competioion in the international field.
Using them in MLB would be akin to murder.

  2. Fister 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K.. No strikes/pitches data avail. Tigers up 3-1. Perfect spring still a possibility.

  3. Based on the performance thus far, Jacob Turner is not going to be the 5th starter… today, 1.2 IN 4 Hits, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 HR.

I know its only spring training, but the Tigers are showing some exposure in their 4th and 5th starter positions. I have to believe DD is trying to put together a trade for a solid starting pitcher. I still want to know how they have room on the roster for all three of: Santiago, Inge and Kelly… maybe one (or two) of them along with a prospect (or two) will be what the Tigers give up for the starting pitcher they’re bringing in?

  4. Tigers are having a great spring but its to bad they cant take the time to sign an autograph. Just come to the game and see the players not take the time for the kids. It is very disappointing!
