Game 2011.100: Tigers at Twins

Make that 11 straight against the Twins, and 21-10 against Central opponents.  The 11 straight also happens to tie the longest current streak any one team has against any other team, for what that’s worth (the Yankees have 11 straight vs the A’s).  And perhaps more importantly, the Tigers now have a winning 2nd-half record, and a 1.5 game division lead.

The Twins have always been a nemesis;  suddenly Minnesota is more like a friend with benefits.

Let’s go for 12.  Tonight Brad Penny takes on Scott Baker, friend of Magglio Ordonez (.469).

Today’s Player of the Pre-Game:  Jhonny Peralta

Can you imagine where the Tigers would be with Adam Everett at SS instead of Peralta? Guess his batting average against AL Central opponents…sorry, my friend, not even close.  Try .429 for the H-Factor.

Today’s Leftist Lineup:

  1. Andy Dirks CF
  2. Brennan Boesch LF
  3. Magglio Ordonez RF
  4. Miguel Cabrera 1B
  5. Victor Martinez DH
  6. Jhonny Peralta SS
  7. Carlos Guillen 2B
  8. Alex Avila C
  9. Don Kelly 3B

  1. 5 consecutive walks, shouldn’t that be grounds for voiding the Purcey trade? I want Sizemore back.

  2. Nothing to be ashamed of losing to Baker. The Twins ace is better than any Tiger starter not named Verlander. Purcey needs to go. Get somebody up that can throw strikes – doesn’t have to be left-handed either.

      1. But Dombrowski said they had been looking at him for a long time! Hmmmmm. Seems to me that when the Tigers deal with Billy Beane, they generally get the short end of the stick.

      2. Scott Sizemore has sucked lately too. He’s hitting .122 since July 4th.

When we 1st got Purcey he was great. He had a 0.00 ERA in 9.1 innings from the time we got him until June 21st. But since June 24th, he has 12.96 ERA in 8.1 innings. So he was perfect for almost a month and then turned absolutely wretched for the past month. It’s hard to like any player that go from one extreme to another. Scott Sizemore is just as flawed as he is, so we just swapped unlikable players with Oakland.
