Minor League Wrap 5.31.2011

Toledo 5, Rochester 0 (Twins)

Thad Weber (RHP)  looked terrific as the Mud Hens starter. He threw 7 scoreless innings and scattered 7 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Weber took the win. Matt Hoffman struck out 2 over two perfect innings of relief.

Timo Perez (LF) had the top night offensively. Perez went 2-4 with 2 runs, a double, and a solo home run. On the year, Perez is hitting .306. Clete Thomas (CF) added 2 RBI on a homer and Bryan Pounds (3B) drove in the final ‘Hens RBI on a solo homer.

Erie 3, Binghamton 1 (Mets) (Game 1)

Jay Voss was credited with the win after lasting 5 2/3 innings and allowing an ER on 2 hits and 3 BB. Zach Simons (RHP) saved the game after an inning and 2/3 of relief.

Jamie Johnson (CF) went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a walk. John Murrian (C) drove in the other Erie run.

Erie 2, Binghamton 3 (Game 2)

Binghamtom won this game in walk-off fashion after Austin Wood (LHP) allowed a run in the bottom of the 8th

Bishop and Holaday combined for the SeaWolves offense in the second game – each man drove in one run.

Lakeland 13, Fort Myers 2 (Twins)

Cole Nelson (LHP) lasted 6 innings as Lakeland’s SP. He posted the following line in a winning effort: 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K. Kevan Hess (RHP) gave up another ER in 2 innings of work and Ryan Robowski (LHP) worked a perfect 9th to complete the game.

Avisail Garcia (RF) played out of his mind: 4-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB. Corey Jones (2B) also had 4 hits in 5 ABs.  Gustavo Nunez (SS) went 3-4 and fell a homer short of the cycle while driving in 2 and drawing 2 walks.

West Michigan 4, Quad Cities 5 (Cardinals)

West Michigan trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth and attempted a rally; sadly, the ‘Caps late effort fell short and Bruce Rondon (RHP) was credited with the loss. In a unique starting line, Kevin Eichhorn posted the following: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, and 4 K.

Robert Brantly (C) went 1-3 with a walk, a homer, and 2 RBI. In 142 ABs this year, Brantly is hitting .310 and SLG .444. Castillo and Hamme also drove in one RBI each.

  1. Those 2 pitchers Dombrowski got for Galarraga looked like disasters when we got them, but they are doing pretty good so far this season.

    Rowbowski a 23 year old RP in Lakeland (A+) has a 1.97 ERA and 1.21 WHIP
    Eichhorn a 21 year old SP in West Michigan (A) has a 4.02 ERA and 1.17 WHIP

  2. Meanwhile hometown Justin Henry is leading the Tigers minors in batting with at 329 avg. While not a power hitter, Henry appears to be a good tablesetter.
