  1. It was a relief to see things go the Tigers way for a change…….and they came away with a W. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going and string together some wins.

    1. Jackson CF
    2. Rhymes 2B
    3. Raburn LF
    4. Cabrera 1B
    5. Martinez DH
    6. Boesch RF
    7. Peralta SS
    8. Avila C
    9. Inge 3B

    Tigers ROARRRRRR

  2. I went all out this year and instead of computer baseball I went Direct TV extra innings so far I haven;t had to listen to Mario and Rod so today they being the announcers come up with this in the first inning
“Rymes is hitting ,182 but he doesn’t strike out very much”, Mario
Martinez who is 0-5 with 0 RBI in this series;;;according to Rod is “starting to heat up”

wow have I missed these insights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. R3LO2 – same old same old.
Scherzer at 50 pitches after two – might be an early exit.

  4. nice pitching for those two outs

side note hey Rick every team so far has a steal of third against you staff….do you think if the pitchers actually looked at the runner on second every single pitch this wouldn’t be happening,,,,kind of fundamental baseball

  5. I’m just tracking this on Gameday, but it seems like we’re having trouble with stopping stolen bases, whether it’s Avila or VMart behind the plate. I guess Laird wasn’t totally useless after all.

Boesch is looking pretty good though. After last season I thought he was finished, but he’s having a good season so far. Sure it is early, but he has already had several games better than any single day after the All Star break last year. Whatever opposing pitchers figured out about him last year, he seems to have adapted to. Nice to see some stolen bases, too.

  6. first he wasn’t on the bag and second Rayburn beat the throw……umpiring against the Tigers has reached a new level of incompetence

  7. How is this team any better (personnel wise) from the team they had a year ago? They got protection for Cabrera…Yet, when Guillen protected Miggy…They still couldn’t win at a high level. They signed yet another DH, on a team full of DH’s…We lost Polanco and currently are replacing him w/ Rhymes. LOL. Maggs is still our #3 hitter…Peralta is a better #7 but, ultimately we are relying on Jackson, Boesch, raburn and Inge, and Avila, if we want to be a good offensive team. No speed, no plate discipline, most of those guys hit mistakes and thats it…Not anything more than below average or average hitters. In the Pen we swapped Coke w/ Benoit…so, how are we better? Now, in the starting staff..we have a shot at being better, but, w/ NO middle relief, we risk losing many ballgames in the 6th and 7th. I don’t know…I am a die hard Tigers fan, who am sick and tired of Dave Dombrowski and his sales pitch every year. Bottom line…we do not have much talent. 81-81 would be a good record for this team.

    1. They are incrementally better than last year, but so are the WSox and Twins. It will all come down to how they do within the division – playing .500 ball against KC and CLE won’t get it done. They also have to do better on the road in general (29-52 last year?). Maybe they can squeak out 85 wins if all goes well. I am not anticipating them going to the WS this year however.

  8. no bunts, no hit and runs, one or two steals basically means it takes three hits in an inning to score any runs…..with Martinez not hitting there is no combination of three hits in any 4 batters……and us there anyone worse than Smokey at manufacturing runs?

  9. Peralta gets the ball in plenty of time on the steal but once again does not try and tag the foot for the third time today he tries tagging the players knee….all are safe

I thought tagging the foot was fundamental

    1. I thought the same thing, but, the 2nd one was a terrible throw and all he could do was catch it and sweep…Peralta may catch the ball to soon, as well, not allowing it to travel. Something, is a miss, because the word is out…everybody will run at will on us this year, until we solve it.

      1. if you also watch Avila he reaches way out to catch the pitch also instead of letting the pitch get into his mitt. The pitch is traveling faster than you can catch and bring it in…we teach our high school catchers that

  10. Avila is beyond awful at throwing guys out…This is getting to be an epidemic. I would blame the pitchers, but, they were great w/ Laird last season. Keep in mind, these are the worst pitchers on Texas’ staff…pitching today.

  11. Great job Peralta! The guy has 10.80 ERA coming into the game and gives up 2 bombs and you can’t get the guy to 3rd.

  12. Station to station…Now Inge will strike out or hit into a DP…How do we not know that is going to drop…Just horrible baserunning.l

  13. Avila is at best a AA player. We all know why he is playing at this level — good catchers are tough to find and, oh yeah, there is something about his last name …. what is it ??

  14. We need somebody in the pen to step up. No walks. I’d like to see Schlereth over Gonzalez or Thomas. If we can get through the 7th, maybe Miggy can get us the lead and Benoit and Valverde can close it out.

  15. I don’t know why Leyland is bringing in Villarreal now. There is nobody on base to pick off.

  16. Villarreal..He seems to be the pen guy beyond the two studs…that Leyland likes best.

    1. Another good inning from Villarreal would be nice. So far it looks like another good outing for him, he may be the rreal thing

  17. How about that “V” man we need a good nickname for him! you guys always come up with good ones

    1. To which Knapp replied “I didn’t know you were here. Have you been here all game?”
