    Raburn LF
    Cabrera 1B
    Boesch RF
    Guillen 2B
    Ingeworm 3B
    Lard C
    Worth SS
    Bonderman P

  2. This Ordonez absence is starting to be a major concern. We really need his bat in the three spot.

  3. Today’s Lineup:

    CF – Hey the Glove Don’t K

DH – OK But I Got That Presence Thing Going For Me
    LF – R3L2O-K-burn

    1B – C’mon Even Pujols Slumps Sometimes

    RF – Bash Boy

    2B – Wait How Come I Don’t Get to Bat 3rd

3B – Please Pitcher Don’t Look in the On-Deck Circle

C – About to Click Slowly UpwardsToward Mendoza

SS – Hey Look I’m Not Everett

P – Looking For Mr. Snappy

  4. Uh-oh…my sensors are picking up evidence that a Clown Show game may be immanent

        1. I suspect “our” team is really the Pittsburgh Pirates. That team in Pittsburgh is the real Detroit team. Jim made a deal.

          1. Yes, and it was a very complex deal involving lifetime employment for past Pirate managers, pizza-favorable zoning law changes by the Pennsylvania legislature, and a Stanley Cup for the Penguins.

  5. Oh c’mon Carlos…I can’t believe somehow Laird ends up hitting into a DP on that

  6. Click gets the ball out of the infield.

Nice lineup tonight. The only thing missing is Kelly playing 1st base and batting cleanup. I guess Leyland is giving him the day off.

    1. Hey not as bad as the Mariners first inning tonight – 2 hits, 2 walks = 0 runs

  7. Hey, the B.O.O.B.s can’t do it all themselves. We have a slumping leadoff hitter, a slumping clean-up hitter, a semi-slumping 2-hitter, and a .170 3-hitter. We’re gonna need some good bounces and some Pirates-being-Pirates.

    1. There is the first step to the pirates-being-pirates— not being able to complete a pick-off attempt

    2. Clearly the Tigers-being-Tigers vs Pirates-being-Pirates gives the advantage to Pittsburgh tonight.

    1. a runner on second no outs ….Jimmy looks at that situation as the beginning of a three run home run

  8. An unintentional intentional to Cabrera. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more of that.

  9. if The Tigers could somehow just swing at strikes in this game they might hvae 7 runs or more by now…

  10. I’ve seen about enough of Raburn. Why not give Wilkin or Casper another spin? Please don’t tell me we’re gonna hang on to Raburn all season as a kind of shadow 3rd-string catcher or something (he’s no longer needed as a backup infielder if we keep Worth and Kelly)

    1. We’re gonna hang on to Raburn all season as a kind of shadow 3rd-string catcher or something.

      Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  11. It says a lot about this game that I was actually thinking cmon Carlos, no DP, that way Inge gets a shot…

  12. Now that I think of it Vince I wouldn’t have been able to resist either.

Well, one guy who’s gotta love Raburn is Maggs because half of Detroit is praying for his oblique about now…

  13. Perhaps allowing Raburn to bat here is a strategic eror by the Detroit manager.

  14. this team is the pits! He K’s on a pitch over his head?? Once again, get a man to 3rd and it’s over. K and a DP…….disgusting!….. 🙁

  15. Hence the nickname R3L2O-K-burn.

Like we couldn’t see that coming a mile away.

I’m totally Rabummed. This one’s on Uncle Marlboro.

  16. Letting RR bat, at any time, in any situation, on any day, against any pitcher, in any weather, in daylight or at night, against any team, in any spot in the order, should be considered a federal offense with the perpetrator subject to prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

So should getting caught in a rundown between third and home. Does anyone remember the phrase “make sure it goes through” before you head for home? Like in Little League? Thought so.

    1. Jackson getting caught in a run down prolonged the inning. Without Meek seeing Jackson breaking home Meek would have gone to second and easily get a DP

  17. see? I told you. Any other major league pitcher would’ve gotten the DP…..DISGUSTING!!

  18. i find all of this hard to believe……I still can’t get past Raburn batting this inning…or ever.

thank you for being the Pirates

  19. On the downside, Smoking Man just decided that Raburn in the 3 slot is good luck…

    1. I think Raburn won trhe game there by not hitting into a triple play…..Smokey does it again!

  20. Why not let Bondo start the inning? Hes at 91 pitches and had retired 12 straight in a row…

    1. Well, you see it is the eighth inning and time to bring in the setup man. It says so, right there in the book.

  21. And why pull Raburn for Kelly?

Oh wait, nevermind, I thought of why. Actually he should have made that move earlier, maybe the inning before the 1st…

  22. call me capt. obvious but JZ better start firing some strikes or this one is going to get away from the offensive jaugernaut aka the tigers

  23. Then again, Tigers being Tigers…seriously, 3rd base stolen in a 1-run game with 1out??

  24. I love how Rod is talking about something has to give between Zumaya’s “fastest fastball in the universe,” and McCutchen’s “fastest hands in the national league,” immediately after 2 guys get base hits against the fastest ball in the universe.

  25. would someone please remind the Tigers that they are playing the Pirates — perhaps they have been fooled by the unis

  26. It’s sort of like watching a train wreck in slow motion – horrific yet fascinating at the same time.

  27. It’s sort of like watching a train wreck in slow motion – horrific yet fascinating at the same time. Wait a minute, didn’t I say that already?

  28. now THAT’S the way a closer should perform. Except it’s not a ‘closer’ situation. Well, a minor detail….I guess.

    1. Papa Grande don’t care from no “closer situation” stuff…he ain’t no Rodney

  29. well Kelly in Raburn out…the reason smokey didn’y PH Kelly with the RH pitcher in the 8th was …..Raburn was due!…

    1. Actually he was playing the percentages–he was trying to stay out of the DP, and odds said that Raburn would K in that situation.

  30. KC Pitcher Brian Bannister gave up 11 runs in 3+ innings tonight – just sayin’.

  31. I’m waiting for this guy to throw the ball into the stands on one of these pick-off attempts.

  32. Haha, pitch out all you want, I’m AJAX dammit…

If only Raburn were still in the game, he could drive him in…

  33. C’mon Kelly, get with the program, the 3-hitter is supposed to swing at every pitch…

  34. this is pretty painful to watch…I must be a glutton for punishment or something……

  35. That’s weird, cause they just said, Coke was replacing Valverde, haha, that would be crazy

  36. Befitting a Clown Show, it would only be just for this game to be decided by an error.

  37. A couple more clicks for Laird and he will have to relinquish to Raburn the yellow jersey in the Tour de Mendoza

  38. If or when the Tigers lose this game, they need look no further than the 23 LOB by individuals tonight… 12 hits by Det, 4 BBs and two errors provided by Pitts… and only 3 runs?! it does not compute.

    1. Laird should take heart though, at least until all of the samples have been tested, since there are rumors of Raburn partaking of R3L2O-K-enhancers

  39. Clearly they didn’t want to walk Guillen and have to face Inge, so Carlos got something good to hit. Thus player of the game = Inge.

  40. only against the Pirates. Any other team would’ve won in regulation 9. I’ll definitely take it however…. 🙂

    1. Well, they had that 2-run-error-by-1b-card up their sleeve, saved for just such an occasion…

    1. We gotta play hard 9 innings, take every at bat, it’s a long season, stay focused, stay healthy, play 9 hard innings, etc., etc. Carlos has a tendency to repeat himself.

  41. Lost in the excitement of this fine display of how to win a baseball game:
    Wassup with Miggy?
Wassup with pulling Bondo and then pulling Papa? (although it mostly worked)
Wassup with Raburn still on the team, much less batting third?
What are we gonna do about all the R3L2O fail.

Speaking of which, Raburn career (including a great 2009 season) R3L2O: 50 PA 18K
Yep, he strikes out 36% of the time (he’s at 44% so far this year). That’s beyond frustrating. To put that in perspective, career Inge–who’s picture you will see someday when you look up strikeout in the dictionary–has struck out 40 times in 248 PA (16%).

    1. Pulled (oblique) Miggy – might be out til Tuesday – still sore, but better according to Beck.
Pulling Bondo – by the book move by a by the book manager – dumb.
Pulling Valverde – It will be very rare for him to have to pitch more than 1 inning, and likely he will never pitch 2 full. OK move, he was probably warmed up anyway.
Not Pulling Raburn/Raburn batting third/Raburn on the team – dumb, dumb, dumb. Add another dumb dumb dumb dumb if he plays tomorrow.
      R3L2O fail – uh……. fire the hitting coach…….. yeah that’s it.

  42. I finally figured out how to watch MBL but listen to Dan Dickerson and Jim Price so in the second inning they debate and try and justify why Leyland bats Raburn 3rd, Here’s what they came up with after talking about it most of the half inning….Smkoey does it so he won’t have to move other guys around in the batting order…………and all this time we thought there was some stupid reason why he does it…….and I thought he got his lineups run off at Kinko’s and it was just easier to only cross off one name….

    1. A few years ago many people complained that he “tinkered” with the line-up too much. Now that Willis and Everett are gone, we’ve got nothing better to complaint about.

  43. Great, great stuff tonight guys. Coleman, one of your best performances. Considering your hot streak, JL is gonna rest you tomorrow for Dmitri Young, and bat the sausage in the 4 hole.

Didn’t Valverde pitch last night? That’s why he’s on a short leash, I think.

I don’t get the Bondo pull after 91 either.

  44. Maybe I can at least come off of the bench in the 8th and make some defensive posts.
