Game 2010.043: Tigers at Dodgers

It is one of those unusual 7pm starts for a West Coast game that just never happen. But it is happening. And it is happening with  Armando Galarraga and John Ely on the mound.

Ely has been pretty awesome this season. In 4 starts he has 25 strikeouts, 3 walks, and no homers over 25.2 innings. And he hasn’t walked a hitter in his last 3 starts.

Galarraga joined the rotation when the team needed an extra arm and he stayed in the rotation when Max Scherzer struggled and was sent to Toledo. He struckout 5 and allowed 6 baserunners and 1 run against the Red Sox.

  1. observations from the stadium last night ….we left for our 8 mile drive to the stadium an hour fifteen before the game and actually saw the firs pitch from inside the stadium. We were pumped…..It was hard to stay awake during the Tiger at bats …was Billingsley THAT good?? Worth looks like the player I thought Sizemore was going to be….his defense was excellent. LA could have challenged his arm on two relays that he threw perfectly to home plate and would have thrown both runners out. He is very quick defensively..a big time arm!!.When you see Willis live you can absolutely see him pitch differently when he is off and when he is on. His body is totally different…we actually were calling pitches balls and strikes before he let go of them and were right in 14 out of 16 pitches in that 3rd and 4th inning. Mostly from the stretch, Yes, we know he was in the stretch alot. Well !See you at 4 …no one should have to play in that stadium at 4:00 We will be there

  2. Damon is starting in CF? Either Jackson is sick or hurt, or this is nuts. Jackson has earned his keep with defense alone. If defense doesn’t matter, then why keep Inge and Everett in line-up? Poor Galarraga. Boesch, Damon, and Ordonez will cover as much ground as swiss cheese.

  3. Here’s the Detroit Tigers’ lineup for tonight’s game at the Dodgers:
    From Freep.com

    1. Johnny Damon, CF
    2. Ramon Santiago, 2B
    3. Magglio Ordonez, RF
    4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
    5. Brennan Boesch, LF
    6. Brandon Inge, 3B
    7. Gerald Laird, C
    8. Adam Everett, SS
    9. Armando Galarraga, P

Coleman, I think you told me one time you were a west coaster, the BOOOOBs (one O for Inge, Laird, Everett and the batting AG) We need all the help we can get 6- 9 here. Is Johnny Bench still around, he might not still have the arm but maybe hitting. Can you see if he is around and sign him ?

We need some help all up and down the line up, Santiago at 2nd as well YIKES

    Lets go T I G E R S !!!

    1. …but clearly wasn’t after watching the replay, if the ball was hit two inches farther it probably would have bounced forward instead of back in play

  4. Nice base running by Magglio there… ball was smoked but he still scored the run.

  5. I was going to make a post earlier making fun of the Dodgers defense in the first inning… I’m glad that I didn’t. And there is no way that error should be on Miguel, Galarraga wasn’t even looking at the ball when it got near his glove.

  6. I think Leyland got confused about the Leyland Rule for lineups (the guy replacing a player has to bat in the same spot in the order), and figured since he had Damon taking Jackson’s spot in the order that he also had to play his position.

  7. LA’s scorer trying to make Miggy look bad. No way was than an error on Cabrera.

  8. the Twins just gave up 5 runs in the 9th and blew a 6-2 lead. Bottom 9, Brewers lead 7-6.

      1. doh. Twins tied it and have the bases loaded with one out.

        Nick Punto batting.

  9. We got unlucky there. Galarraga got squeezed on the 1st batter. Then the error on the bunts. It should be an unearned run.

  10. Bummer MLB EI, NG tonight Im audio only.

Does any one know if you get every game if you go with the MLB.com package?

Although the radio is a bit nostalgic and you can surf the web a little

    1. Can’t get the national blackouts, Sat evening and Sun afternoon, same as MLB EI.

      1. You gotta love the national blackouts. Why is the game blacked out? Because it is being played early. Why is it early? For TV scheduling. Is it on TV here? No. Then why is it blacked out on MLB? So you watch it on TV…but, but, but you can watch the Mets-Yankees! Enjoy…

  11. Damn ump, that called strike 3 on Santiago was the same pitch that was ball 4 for Galarraga in the 1st inning.

  12. This is shaping up to be a horrible game for us. I hope Jackson’s alright, and I also hope that isn’t a concussion

  13. Guillen can’t come back soon enough. Any update on his Toledo start tonight?

  14. Not much more we can ask for that Cabrera and Boesch (possibly) with a chance to tie things up.

  15. Called third strike that wasn’t a strike to end the rally and game. Major league umpires should be ashamed.

  16. Because Zumaya had taken Maggs’ spot in the order when he came in.

As far as Avila going back to A ball: a lot of guys get embarrassed by Broxton.

  17. Broxton doesn’t account for the rest of Avila’s consistently awful at-bats, however.

  18. Jimmy had so much fun tonight playing national league manager he took Ordonez out of the game. Un-frickin-believable. As Inge wandered up to bat the entire stadium including us got up and left and they don’t even know about Inge.
