Game 2010.025: Angels at Tigers

The Tigers look for the morning storms to move out of the area so they can get in an afternoon tilt against the Angels. It will be Jeremy Bonderman taking on Scott Kazmir.

Kazmir has had a tendency to walk people in the past, but when the two teams hooked up earlier this season he fanned 7 Tigers hitters without issuing a free pass as he picked up a win. He followed that up by walking 4 Yankees in 5.1 innings though so I don’t know that the control issues are corrected.

Jeremy Bonderman was nearly great his last time out, humming through the first 5 innings before things got away from him in the 6th. At least he was efficient needing only 74 pitches to get through 5.2 innings.

  1. The only thunder & lightning today……is going to be from the Tigers bats!
    Lets rock boys!

  2. I’m not too thrilled about Raburn being the lineup. But I guess we’re facing a lefty, so maybe it will pay off. I hope so. Hopefully not too many balls head his way.

    1. Well he made a really fine play there in the corner. Gotta give him credit for that one.

  3. I wish Raburn had taken a cut at that hanging curve Kazmir served up on the first pitch. What a horrendous at bat.

  4. The Tigers looked like the Bad News Bears that last series of plays!

  5. ok, I’ve had it with Raburn in the OF; he CANNOT catch a flyball! C’mon Jimmy…..gotta help the team and keep Ryan out of the OF….. 🙁

  6. I’ve been a been Raburn supporter as of late, but that sequence was really inexcusable. I know the 2nd error was on Cabrera, but that was a bad throw.

  7. If Boesch continues to produce during this stint in the bigs, and the team decides too keep him in Detroit after Guillen returns, who goes back down?

      1. Yeah I don’t know enough about roster rules to know whether or Raburn can or can’t be sent back down. I’m assuming he can…but given Leyland’s favor for him, I think Kelly is more likely to go back.

I would prefer Raburn at this point because he really can’t play in the OF and I feel real comfortable with Ramon being our utility infielder.

  8. Someone on this board, Billfer? Someone? must know why Leyland doesn’t bunt Laird in these situations. It’s maddening. I really like Leyland ,but these things and his bullpen management make me feel like I wouldn’t be to upset if he were gone. No, I don’t want him to get lung cancer.

    1. There is plenty of risk involved with bunting, and the reward is advancing the runner while making a nearly automatic out. I’m not a fan of bunting, unless the defense is playing deep at the corners and hitter is bunting for a hit.

      1. Dude-a-ron-omy,
with the bottom of the order coming up? pitchers dual? no n t n doh

We wouldn´t have needed this tacky Damon long fly business.

  9. The usual problem….too many LOB…. can’t bring those ducks in!

  10. Anyone see it? Was he really out? I’m listening to the radio and watching Gameday.

Sounded like a great throw by Damon.

    1. I watched the replay in slow motion. His foot was headed to the bag but Laird got him just a couple inches before he got there.

  11. Man, J-Damon is such a professional hitter. I would love to know how many foul balls he averages per bat. He really puts on a clinic with his penchant to spoil pitches by getting lumber on them to stay alive.

  12. Laird and Cabrera with stolen bases today. I love that we’re the more aggressive team on the base paths today. Or at least the more successful.

  13. Obviously I would have loved getting a run in the bottom of the 8th…but I have to say I’m not disappointed by the prospect of seeing the top of the order get something going in the bottom of the 9th. If this is still tied at the end of this half-inning, we’re in for some fun.

  14. Wow, Mario jinxed Damon, but there must have been reverse-jinx action from somewhere!

I’d be pretty happy with 5 HR from Damon this year if they are all like that…

  15. I’ll be happy with 5 homeruns if he continues to hit for average and get on base like he has been.

Another great win! This team is a lot of fun to watch.

  16. Damon = I love everything about. At 1st, I thought we were just getting a good hitter, but he’s brings a positive attitude and a great personality to the clubhouse. He seems to be the new team spokesman for the media also. He’s giving the team stuff that is absolutely priceless.

    1. Two things I noticed about Damon today that I liked, (1) he picked up his own bat on the way back to the dugout early in the game after making an out, and (2) he finished the post game interview with Trevor Thompson after cleaning up the shaving cream pie he got in the face (even though he still had tears in his eyes from the shaving cream). Both things just speak to his class, seems like a decent guy.

  17. Jackson, Damon, Ordonez, Cabrera. The top of our order has been wonderful. What a huge difference between last year and this year, it’s like night and day. Last year, we had to beg for a little offense from Granderson, Polanco, Ordonez, and Cabrera. This year, when we ask for it, it’s like dumping gasoline on a fire.

  18. And the cherry on top of today’s great win: the Twins just lost to the Indians in the 11th (after blowing bases-loaded one-out in the top of the 11th).
