Game 2010.017: Tigers at Rangers

Check out the post game wrap-up: Questioning the IBB

Max Scherzer got something many of us didn’t last night, a full night’s sleep. Scherzer traveled ahead of the team and got into Texas at a reasonable time. The rest of the team? Well, they may be sleepy. And with with Red Wings in the playoffs they didn’t even get to fly Red Bird One.

Scherzer has two quality starts this season in 3 tries despite not finding the prolific strike out numbers he experienced last year. He’s only fanned 10 in 17 innings so far. Scherzer faced the Rangers once last year and held them to 2 runs in 6 innings.

Scott Feldman went 7 innings in his first 2 starts, but didn’t make it out of the 3rd in his latest outing against the Yankees. He faced the Tigers once last year and Detroit got to him for 6 runs in 2.1 innings. Granderson did the bulk of the damage hitting homers in each of the first 2 innings.

  1. So much for the rumor that Inge would bat 5th behind Miggy. They’re throwing the youngin’ right in there in his first game.

  2. Apparently Feldman got scratched for Rich Harden.

Also, the Royals cut Juan Cruz and brought back Bruce Chen. Interesting.

  3. It looked like it fell at the base of the wall. We didn’t get a slo-mo replay. A tad more lift and it woulda been gone.

  4. Why are we getting such a weird view of the pitcher/batter? I feel like I’m sitting in the nosebleed section.

    1. That’s the Texas feed. I would also much better watch the Detroit broadcast.

  5. Hmm, I don’t think Mr. Harden (“Rich, don’t call me Dick”) wants to make a habit of walking Ordonez…

  6. Another DOA for Avila…..the lesson might now be …..don’t attempt to steal on Avila.

  7. Call me crazy, but I’m really looking forward to another Boesch AB…getting ready to unveil the “B-Bash” nickname (OK, but it’s better than “Practically Venezuelan”)

  8. I’m officially not worried Inge has no home runs…that was his second 400 ft fly out of the season

  9. I’m going to go ahead and say it. I think that the 5th inning will be Harden’s last.

  10. Every time I hear Dickerson say “Harden ready” I can’t help thinking about the Hot ‘n Ready, except with disturbing overtones. But that’s just me…

    1. I’ve seen a catcher use his mask before to stop a rolling bunt and it was called catcher interference…never a balk before, but I wouldn’t be surprised that that’s the rule…the fact that Leyland came out to argue, heard about two words, and turned around and went back, makes me think that it’s a by-the-rule thing that, as a former catcher, he immediately recognized…but that’s just my guess…

  11. Rangers just held a seminar on how to score with men on base. Hope the Tigers were taking notes.

    1. K-Jax, not to be outdone, grabs his own tri-cornered…we must look quite dashing and patriotic out there sporting all these tri-corners…

  12. Good games by Max, Maggs, Boesch, and Ramon (especially that last AB)…but odds are, if you are in Texas and score 2, you WILL lose.

  13. I don’t get this move at all. I don’t like walking Garko to get to Cruz. Hope this turns out okay, but I don’t get the decision.

  14. And I don’t get why the IF would be playing “In” as opposed to DP-depth, if the Rangers announcers are to be believed.
