The Tigers have three starters and a lot of bullpen guys who can give you two or three innings. What if the decision was made to start Verlander, Jackson, and Porcello every three days with a 70 pitch limit? Five starts of seventy pitches each is fewer pitches than three of 120. Instead of starting Galarraga/Figaro/Bonine/Washburn/whoever, and basically knowing that you're going to be down like 5-1 by the fourth, give yourself the chance to be ahead at the end of the fourth, and get 5 innings out of the expanded bullpen.

No chance it actually happens. Seems like maybe the best answer to this situation, though.
