Commentor David has put together a fantasy baseball league for Tigers fans. I won’t be participating (time constraints and all), but I’m happy to help promote. Here is the information that David sent. The draft is the 27th and the 28th.
Most of the league team owners so far are big Tigers fans. The live drafts are on March 27 and March 28 at 9:00pm. It is a 25 man roster setup, with 10 hitters, 10 pitchers and 5 bench. Head-to-head scoring with only four categories (runs, rbi, era and quality starts). 4 leagues – 2 AL-only and 2 NL-only. 2moves/week and 50 min. innings pitched/week. It is also a keeper league where you get to keep 10 players after this year. This is the first year of the leagues, so you’ve got as good a chance as anybody. LIVE DRAFTS are Friday and Saturday (latest I could make them, and they don’t take long). Setup is more attractive and simpler than nearly any other fantasy league you could join, and the guys are shrewd MLB/Tigers fans. Feel free to ask questions here in this thread or in the email.

Unfortunately, as statistically inclined as I am, I am also the worst fantasy baseball player that I know. I just don’t value RBI, batting average, wins, etc etc enough to be effective.
Fantasy hockey, on the other hand…

I was going for something really simple and realistic. I personally liked runs scored vs runs against, but I also like head-to-head. RBI+Runs was as close as I was going to get through Yahoo!’s settings. And for pitching I think ERA is an excellent stat and well I wanted to reward people who pick starters so I also used Quality Starts, plus with the min. set a 50innings/week you can’t glide by with a bunch of relievers. Sadly I didn’t put any defensive metrics in there because 1) in that aspect Yahoo! is living in the dark ages (putouts/assists/f% etc.), so I wouldn’t get rewarded for a guy like Inge 2) I wanted as few stats and therefore as simple as possible.
Bottom line the guys who outscore their opponent win. If you change your mind let me know.

It’s tempting, David and normally I’d be interested (although like Mike R, I am not very good at fantasy baseball. But also like Mike R I have great success at fantasy hockey…). Unfortunately with classes two nights per week and a much thinner staff around the office, I just don’t foresee having the time. I’m bummed that I had to cancel my mlb.tv subscription since I know I’m not going to be able to watch the games…

I don’t think I’m going to do a fantasy league this year. It becomes too all-consuming for me. Plus, I won my league last year so I’m going to pull a Costanza and go out on a high note.
Yikes, watching Mets and Tigers and Everett and Robertson both leave game in 1st inning with injuries.
