Guillen - Inge - Larish. That spells G-I-L. Laws, yes.

Well, if Santiago would do something once in a while to impress with his glove at SS, I'd advocate him as the low-budget stopgap until Iorg or whoever is ready.

I don't think Renteria will be back, based on money rather than his performance per se. I think the Tigers need a glove at SS. Let's see what they think. Since they're so fond of converting position players, maybe Inge gets a shot at SS in 2009.

I'm looking forward to an infield, right to left, of Cabrera, Guillen (2B), Inge, and Larish. Raburn will catch. With Ordonez at DH, Santiago will take over in RF. Granderson is a natural LF, and a platoon of Sheffield and Joyce and Jacque Jones (resigned) in CF will keep AL Central rivals off-balance, for sure.

No, Renteria is a form of mediocrity worship in the culture of American League SS rankings. Given the available talent, it can't be helped.

Isn't Renteria a form of devil worship in the Haitian culture? I'd have that ham sandwich with a glass of vinegar and cayenne pepper.

Bad news about Clete Thomas and surgery. I thought he was a pretty sure bet to be on the team in 2009.

I had a ham sandwich today and didn't even realize the irony. Next time I will approach this communion ritual (Body of Renteria) with a greater sense of reverence and ceremony. What do I drink with it, though?

Sometimes you get a lot more than you pay for(Rays, Twin and Marlins); get what you pay for(Indians, Cardinals, and Blue Jays) and then supposedly some of the best and brightest like Cashman and DD really get stiffed(Mariners,Tigers and Yankees).

Ah, out in the offseason hunting, leaning back against a failed season, munching on some trades that didn't work out as planned, looking at those dried, crunchy, curled up DH-only types, veterans in decline, and soon-to-retires, just hoping that those bad contracts are in your wallet, or at least a few expendable players. Because you really need to unload, but you used up your roll of prospects a while back.

"The Tigers' streak of 86 games with at least one extra-base hit came to an end."

I had no idea. And hey, they're 46-40 over that stretch.

The bullpen went 5 hitless, scoreless innings yesterday, with 8 K and 2 BB. Yes, it was the Sacramento A's, but the same Sacramento team that took 2 of 3.

Ah, out in the woods hunting, leaning back against a tree, munching on a ham sandwich, looking at those dried, crunchy, curled up maple leaves, just hoping that damn invoice is in your wallet, or at least a few single bills.

How dumb do you have to be to get doubled off a base to make the last out of a game when you're losing by three runs? Could this team be any less focused?

Just wondering...
