Oh I forgot to add that after a player accrues a certain amount of MLB service time (e.g. Dontrelle Willis), they can refuse the option of being sent to the minors. Fortunately, D-Train's a team guy and didn't cause a ruckus over that. And minor league rehab assignments don't count in the whole option scenario.

Brian P.: A player has 3 "options", meaning 3 years which they can be sent up/down as many times as the club wants without having to clear waivers. After those 3 option years are used up, they are gone - so Cruceta would have to clear waivers again if he's brought up to Detroit and stinks up the joint again and gets DFA'd. There's a way that the club can get a 4th option, but I'm not 100% sure how that works. Ask Keith Law, he'll tell you.

I'm in need of some Minor League Contracts 101.

If a player like Cruceta is DFA, clears waivers, and is sent to Toledo, what kind of options does he have? Could we theoretically fly him from Detroit to Toledo as much as we want? Or is there a limit to how many times a player can be sent up and down?

I had the opportunity of meeting Ian Ostland at Spring Training 3 years ago. He was very down to earth and we had a great conversation while watching a game. He was in the minor league camp and they will go to Joer Marchant and watch the major league camp play if it is a night game. Here is hoping he gets a chance at least as a September call up to make the show!
