The 0-6 start stat is a stale stat to recite. Especially when you consider that until the mid 90's there weren't wild card winners and there were less divisions etc etc. Less teams able to make the playoffs.

First with 0-6 myth. Not a lot of teams have started 0-6 at all, period. So the fact that no team has ever won the world series starting 0-6 is kind of a cheap stat, because this start seldom happens.

That being said the Tigs are playing like crap

One angle to try to manage the angst we're all experiencing: Pretend it's not the beginning of the season.

From Jayson Stark:

Everything IS magnified this time of year. I looked into that. Of the last seven teams that won the World Series, five of them had losing streaks of six games or more at some point that season -- several of them had multiple losing streaks of six games or more. I look at the lineup and the upside of this team, and I'm pretty sure that didn't vanish in a week.

A win today would help more with the angst thing, though.

Well said Eric, usually, if a team starts the season 0-6, most of the time its because the team doesn't have much talent. I don't think that's the case with this team(although some of them do lack fundamentals, but that's another story for another day)

I wonder how many of those 0-6 teams had the #2 highest payroll. Probably not many, if any.

Obviously the streak shouldn't be taken lightly as every loss decreases your chances. But the season isn't over.

It's not like going 0-6 caused a team not to win the Series. Baseball 'analysts' don't really seem to grasp the difference between causation and correlation.

Look, if we have a chance to make the playoffs (which we do; the season is six games old and most of our rivals aren't playing that well either) we have a chance to win it all. Anything can happen in the playoffs, which is only three series.

I try not to read too much into these "no 0-5 team has ever" or "no 0-6 team has ever" stuff. We have a lot of problems that we need to fix. If the team doesn't improve, we'll finish with a terrible record, but if it does, we'll be able to make up this deficit, which isn't that big in the scope of a baseball season.

Isn't it true that no 0-6 team has ever won the World Series? And isn't that the goal? Or is our goal just to make the playoffs?
