we figured it out the trick this year - just camped out in the press conference area. had great seats, and a great time. it wasn't crowded because they didn't announce names beforehand .. but then in walked Leyland, Cabrera, Willis, Robertson, Polanco, Ordonez, Guillen, asst. mgr. Avila, four '68 Tigers, along with some others ... pretty much everyone I'd wanna see! the q&a sessions were laid back too, really easy to ask something if you wanted. That part of the day was worth 12 bucks within the first five minutes! four hours of that was baseball fan heaven.

Here I am in sunny SoCal and I wish I was in MI for Tigerfest. Am I insane or what?

Congrats to the Goose. Going in w/Dick Williams is great. Let's see that clip where Goose talks Williams into letting him pitch to Gibby. Boom!

18% for Trammell. What a joke. At least he beat Concepcion by a few votes.

I do not get the Jim Rice bandwagon. He was feared, yes. Lots of sluggers were feared. He was a lousy OF, he has some incredible off the chart GIDP numbers, and as good as he was at his peak his career was short. Even in '78 when he put up the big numbers his SLG was .600. Very good but not great. He hit like Frank Robinson at Fenway and like Jeff Conine everywhere else.

"Feared" hitters not in the HOF: adjusted OPS+

Dick Allen 156
Albert Belle 143
Kevin Mitchell 142
Frank Howard 142
Norm Cash 139
Boog Powell 134
Fred McGriff 134
Rocky Colavito 132
Juan Gonzalez 132
Mo Vaughn 132
Greg Luzinski 130
Fred Lynn 129

Jim Rice 128

Bob Horner 127
Richie Zisk 126
George Foster 126
Fred McGriff 134
Rocky Colavito 132
Juan Gonzalez 132
Bobby Bonilla 124
Kirk Gibson 123
Dale Murphy 121
Dave Parker 121
Willie Horton 120
Andre Dawson 119

With Yaz, Lynn and Evans on the team, Rice may have been Boston's 4th best OF. Why is he so special?
