  1. Hey, can someone riddle me this: mlbtraderumors.com has been dropping bonderman’s name as someone who could be traded this winter, twice today. I posted a comment there that this made no sense whatsoever. Has anyone heard anything about this or is it just idle speculation?

  2. Bonderman sure does seem to come up on MLBtraderumors.com. No one mentions anything about Robertson, Verlander, or Miller; maybe they just make up rumors based on some perceived frustration by Tigers management with him. But it seems like Bondo is one of their pet projects – he’s thought to be a “tough kid” (rightly so!) and seems like someday he’ll put his toughness together with his stuff together with 200 innings and dominate for a full season.

Looking at the pitching projections on the Angels’ site: they have Miller making a few starts, and Bondo and Verlander each starting about 30. They have Miller striking out a guy every other inning; they have Bondo and Verlander at about 190 IP, striking out around 8/9IP. The project Bondo and Verlander to both have ERAs around 3.6 or so. We’ll see. I think Verlander especially and Bondo have the ability to go past 200 innings; and I think Miller has a very decent shot as being the #5 starter when they break camp. We’ll see.

  3. It’s not that MLBTR is the source of the rumors. In most cases they are aggregating other reports that are out there.

  4. Right, Billfer, that’s why I was asking about if anyone had heard any rumblings about bondo.

I’m sure bondo will be fine, especially if he can figure out the first inning. Even if we were going to deal bondo, why do it now, coming off his worst season in a few years, and we don’t really NEED anything, except starting pitching.

If we get 800 innings out of verlander/bondo/nate/rogers, playoffs. if not, not.

  5. direct quote from mlbtraderumors.com:

If Valverde is to get up to the $8-10MM range it makes sense for the D’Backs to shop him as an elite closer under team control through 2009. He could be involved in a deal for a starter, for example the Tigers’ Jeremy Bonderman (pure speculation).

    unquote.

I only check the site periodically, but Bilfer is correct, though they will add their own speculation and/or opinions about the rumors themselves, from time to time.

The only ‘rumblings’ I’ve heard/seen, are from random posts on message boards, from posters here and there stating that the Tigers should trade him(in their opinion), which isn’t going to happen for the reasons Don has already pointed out.

I’d chalk it up to fans disgruntled with his 2007 performance.

  6. They can speculate all they want — short of a package for Miguel Cabrera, Jeremy Bonderman is not getting traded. If he were to get dealt, it would’ve been for Teixeira last offseason.
