  1. Timo batting third again today! Lol.

    Granderson cf
    Polanco 2b
    Perez dh
    Ordonez rf
    Guillen 1b
    Rabelo c
    Inge 3b
    Maybin lf
    Santiago ss

  2. Well I don’t know how many will be able to watch the game today, but I have the day off work. Also, I am gonna be drinkin some brews while watchin today (something I have not done in a while) so hopefully it will be a good game.

  3. The article on MVN was pretty good, with one exception. I don’t think anyone will hesitate to cut Clevelen from the 40-man roster.

  4. Thanks coach. While I agree Clevlen probably isn’t going to offer the Tigers much as a prospect, I don’t see them cutting him to make room for Dane Sardinha as a third catcher for two weeks.

I could be wrong, though. Maybe they already know they’re not going to protect him on the 40-man this offseason.

  5. Bonderman out of the 1st without giving up a run.Perhaps our fortunes change for the better today?

Billfer – where’s our game day thread?

  6. I was noticing what Rod just commented on, Bonderman was taking some deep breaths on the mound before his delivery.

  7. I guess this is our thread for today. I am in the office and told myself I was not going to follow Gameday but when you’re a junkie, what can you do.
Boombotti, did Rod say that Bondo had gotten some relaxation technique training? If that’s the case all I can say is they should have done it weeks ago.

  8. I was looking at the lineup earlier and had a feeling the bottom of the order was gonna do something today. I’m glad my feeling was a good one.

  9. Yet another inning we should have been able to get more out of. How much of our offensive soul did we sell to the Devil for Monday night?

    I’m happy with a run – I guess.

  10. i don’t know if i am correct on this, but I believe Bonderman started throwing the changeup more after the all-star break, which when he was pitching good I think he used it more as a “show me pitch” Is there any way you can look that up?

  11. Hey Jason, riddle me this:

How big was the Tigers lead when they started September last year?

    That would be 5 games.

    It isn’t over yet.

  12. “but when you’re a junkie, what can you do.”

That pretty well sums things up for most of us, I think.

The eternal optimist in me is dwelling on those three remaining games vs. the Indians. A sweep of those games and we’ve got a chance. (Just don’t mention the names Sabbathia and Carmona to me.)

  13. Yeah the Tigers destiny is in thier own hands in September, with the Seattle series and Cleveland series.

  14. To help you quiet your inner-Jason and keep you off the ledge: the Indians are little better than a .500 road team and have 17 of 28 games in September on the road.

  15. We have to win 8 out of 10, which is daunting. But if “Bonderlander” can get hot, and Robertson can at least be solid, we have a chance.

I’m not going to lie, it isn’t looking so good. But it is not over.

  16. Is bondo throwing a change up today?
On gameday he speed is either 92-94
    or 84-87

is the 84 the change up or the slider?

  17. What went wrong in Inge’s developement as a hitter, as with the stat they just showed, In 2004 he hit 287 with less power. Now he just tries to pull everything over the fence. I remember a time when Monroe and Inge both used to go to the opposite field for a hit. Not many guys can be dead pull hitters and be successfull in this league.

  18. Leyland is a genius for batting Timo 3rd today, that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

  19. Man i did not remember Santiago to be so good defensively and have such a strong arm.

  20. I think it’s only fair that I eat my words from Tuesday night. I still don’t think that having Perez batting third on Tuesday gave us the best chance to win, but he’s had some pretty solid hits for us… Gotta “tip my hat” to Leyland…

And I think Raburn should be getting more time at 3B until Brandon can get the job done more consistently…

  21. I think I am saying too much today, but I also remember Bonderman’s slider having more bite to it earlier this year. He looks good today so I’ll take it.

  22. While I’ll still argue that this lineup is whack, Santiago can play SS for us any day.

And Guillen is looking like a gold glover at 1B…

  23. Yeah, Tram Fan, i was thinking the same thing. But, Maybe Bondo can gain some confidence from this outing. Also, the Boston massacre repeating itself this year. Blah

  24. My Tiger Curtis is having a day!!

Am I crazy to let Bonderman’s performance, and the production of the “whack” lineup (true, Kevin!) give me hope for the month ahead??

  25. One thing i have never liked about Leyland is how many times he puts the hit and run on. Granderson could have at least 40 steals by now.

  26. Cib,

I’m afraid you are, in fact, crazy. Too much Kool-Aid. These wins feel so good (now if Cleveland loses, we’ll only be 3.5 back and if we win tomorrow….) because they are so infrequent now. I know, because I am having some Kool-Aid now and it tastes gooooooood.

  27. The new nickname for maggs should be “Machine Gun” Maggs because he is automatic!

  28. I have never bought a sports jersey, but if I ever did, it would be an Ordonez jersey. Not just because of this year, but because of the type of person he is and a player.

  29. Mark I have to keep drinking the kool-aid because the deadline for paying IN FULL for playoff tickets is TOMORROW at 5 PM. An interest-free loan to Mr. Ilitch. it kills me!!
But of course I have to pull the trigger because if they do it, who wants to be out in the cold? If it’s the price I have to pay for a team that (hopefully) is consistently still in contention by September 1, I guess it beats the alternative!!

  30. I love your enthusiasm, cib, and secretly I’m hoping that they’re still in too.

Pass me the kool-aid when you’re done.

  31. You know, when all is said and done, I can never really get down on Inge. If you think about it, he has been one of the building blocks of what this team is today.

  32. I really like Guillen at 1st base, he looks like such a natural. I guess we need to find a shortstop in the off season. Hmmmm…..

  33. I just hope he can regain a mix of the power and average in his career going forward.

  34. Is everyone serious that Leyland deserves credit for batting Timo third? So his hunch worked out 1 out of 3 games. If his ‘hunches’ work out at a 33% clip the rest of the season the Tigers will get passed by the Twins.

Today’s game is more about Bondo coming up big than a AAAA dog finding a bone.

  35. Anthony of course you are correct; we are just trying to find something to be happy, and compose haiku, about!

  36. I went and calculated inherited runners/inherited runners scored for Grilli. He is actually not terrible, and I was surprised.
