Tigers trade Roman Colon

The Tigers have traded Roman Colon to the Royals for that famous PTBNL, aka the player-to-be-named-later. Colon’s rehab has been assigned to AA Wichita.

Impact: zero.

I’m actually surprised that the Tigers could get anything for Colon, what with the felonious assault indictment and all. One way or another he punched his ticket out of Detroit when he punched Jason Karnuth and broke his face.

The move does free up a spot on the 40 man roster. There isn’t a pressing need at this point, unless it’s a precursor for something else.

  1. Hmm, like none of us here didn’t see this coming. I’ve no sympathy especially after hearing about the permanent damage done to Jason Karnuth’s face.

Wonder if he’ll have a “no headphone clause” in his KC contract.

  2. That “punch his ticket” pun is just irresistible.

There was no spot for Colon anyway, but most certainly not in the entire organization after what he did to Jason Karmuth.

  3. Quick note about Thames batting in the two hole. I understand we want a righty against the lefty, but I questioned why Pudge wouldn’t bat second.

But a quick glance at the stats shows that Thames has (among other things) a higher OPS, and a higher RC/27 than pudge.

Also interesting – Maroth had a higher OPS than Monroe, Infante, Rabelo and Perez.

We really threw away our offensive depth with that trade

  5. Wheres the Gary Sheffield’s comment posting!!?

I don’t likt this deal, when the Tigs traded Farnsworth, the main persn they wanted was Colon. Colon has a ton of potnetial, just personal issues.

Oh well, Tigs got a lot of good young pitching.

  6. I don’t mind it at all. You could never count on Colon to throw strikes and get people out. He had plenty of chances the previous two seasons to make his mark here and he wasn’t up to the task. Besides, we got Miner out of that Farnsworth deal as well as Colon. Miner is looking to be the more valuable of the two thus far. So in essence we got Miner and a PTBNL for Farnsworth and have rid ourselves of a middling relief pitcher with anger management issues. Where’s the problem?
