Neifi's suspended for 25 games. It's on MLB's website under press releases, so it's not just wishful thinking.

Weird, since Raburn isn't really a plug-in for Neifi. I would have expected Santiago or even Hannahan.

I think we said it at the same time Ryan S, I posted it with 6 comments on here, all of the sudden there were 14 by time my comment got on here. Great minds think alike. I think this much ado about nothing, they have opened the door for the DL stint with the talk about he knee. That gives them time to look at a Thames/Raburn LF combo for a few games AND they can send Monroe to Toledo for a few games for rehab without having to worry about sending him through waivers.

Monroe had some sort of unspecified knee thing recently, so the DL thing wouldn't be totally out of nowhere.

If Raburn goes on a tear? Trade Monroe to STL for Mike Maroth and a PTBNL (haha).

"Does anyone know what happens if nobody claims him?"

If no one claims a player on waivers, a team can demote said player to the minors.

Actually, Ryan, you hit the nail on the head with the DL... that's exactly what I'd bet on.

What do you do if, during that time, Raburn goes on a tear? Keep Monroe on the DL?

Wow. Putting Monroe thru waivers. That seems radical. Doesn't seem like something the Tigers would do... but it would probably be the best thing to do

Adam: your point about Thames at 1B is a good one. Unlikely to see him go.

Chris: you beat me to the punch on Monroe to the DL. We'll see if we're right soon enough.

Does anyone know if Rayburn is expected to join the club tonight? In other words, will we have an answer today?

At first I got excited, thinking there's a trade in the works involving Monroe or Thames (hopefully Monroe). Now I'm leaning toward a trip to the DL for Monroe (not real exciting...) Give him a 15 day vacation, followed by some minor league rehabbing and hope he can get it back? It would be an "easy on the ego" way of sending him to AAA for a stretch.

I have a feeling this is going to be C-Mo going on the DL for the knee, then let him go to Toledo for a "rehab stint" to see if he can get his swing back down there. I doubt he has options left since he has been in the league for quite a while now. His trade value has never been lower, so it doesn't make sense to deal him at this point.

It really can't be Thames by the way, since Thames has basically been transformed into a power-hitting first baseman. Unless we want to bring Shelton up to platoon with Casey (which we probably don't) we're going to keep him. The fact that he plays Left Field is just a bonus.

But really, Raburn is just an outfielder. The person getting replaced should just be an outfielder too...and we know it's not Maggs or Grandy or Sheff. Who does that leave? Hmmmmm.
