I like Joe's voice, but he has begun to get on my nerves. I watch Sunday night baseball just about every week, and it seems all he talks about are the Yankees and the Red Sox. However, this past Sunday night, he didn't have much to say about the Yankees since they're stinkin up their whole division.

I agree with Nate on Jon Miller. I think he handles the play by play well. Sometimes, I've even suspected that Miller realizes how idiotic Morgan is. I wish I could recall a specific incident, but there have been times when I've heard Morgan going off on something, where Miller seems to almost gleefully and impishly egg him on, watching him dig his idiocy hole deeper and deeper. It's a subtle thing, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed that?

As a whole, I would have to say i dislike the Miller/Morgan combo. I would much rather listen to Rod Allen and Mario Impemba. However, if i have to watch a national broadcast, I would much rather watch a sunday night ESPN game with miller morgan as opposed to a Fox saturday afternoon game with two random guys

I don't care for Joe Morgan, but I don't understand lumping Jon Miller in the scorn-pile with him.

Miller, in my estimation, is the best play-by-play man who gets a significant amount of national air-time. He can make just about anything seem exciting; it's his partner in the booth who drags the broadcast down for me.

I would even go so far to say that I think Miller / Morgan is one of the best broadcast teams, because Morgan isn't quite as bad as Miller is good. I guess it's a little like saying that an infield that consisted of Pujols, Utley, A-Rod, and Neifi Perez is a pretty good infield. Morgan is not so terrible that he can completely undo the good that Miller does in the booth.

I also don't understand the Joe Morgan bashing. I have watch baseball for years, and I think the most informative games I have ever watched were games that he has done.

A few years ago I even had a discussion with my brother about how much I liked him, and how listening to his games were fun.

Maybe it is because I don't watch every single game that he calls? I probably only watch him a few times a year. Maybe he grows old on you fairly quickly. But, so far, that hasn't been the case for me.

This last Sunday night, Morgan was talking about Dice-K's higher-than-expected ERA and said the only way to measure a pitcher is win-loss record--that Dice-K may give up a lot of runs early but that he'd batter after that so that the Red Sox could score a lot of runs and come back.

Presumably, Morgan thinks that, if Dice-K were traded to the Royals, the KC hitters would suddenly start scoring a lot more runs in the middle innnings.

Well, Joe Morgan would probably be better if he could call the Tigers players by their, you know, names. Him and Jon Miller are the equivilent to Fox's Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Neither broadcast team should be doing games. Miller and Morgan harp on the same exact thing over and over and over again. See: The ARod play in Toronto days before hand, being brought up every inning in the middle of the Red Sox-Yankees game. And then harping on Manny playing so shallow in LF in Fenway.

They're just terrible. I would rather hear Rick Sutcliffe and Dusty Baker, and I keep praying some team hires them for coaching positions so I never hear them talk. Shows how much i hate Morgan and Miller.

Hey Heckler, you may want to check out www.firejoemorgan.com for a different perspective.

I used to like him, particularly when paired with Jon Miller, but he has a very limited vocabulary and is often woefully uninformed regarding the teams he's covering (unless its NYY, BOS, LAD or SFG) as last year's playoff performance, covering "Jason" Verlander, would evidence.

If Joe would ease up on all the uninformed attacks on sabrmetrics he might be more tolerable.

Wow - you really don't like Joe Morgan? I think he's one of the best color commentators in the game today. Very insightful. I've never heard of anyone not liking him. Different strokes, I guess . . .

We have quite a different take on Morgan on our site: http://www.baseballbigmouth.com/index.php/espns-morgan-continues-to-dazzle-sunday-nights

Awesome. I was just thinking, "I would really like to stab my ears with an ice pick." And I now have an actual reason to do so. Excellent.
