Tigers Minor League Wrap – 5/24/07

Toledo 7 Columbus 6
Things haven’t gone well for Virgil Vasquez since his spot start. Once again he was roughed up, this time for 5 runs on 4 walks and 5 hits with only 2 K’s in 5 innings. Mike hessman hit a grand slam, his 12th homer of the year. Chris Shelton reached base 5 times with a single, a double, and 3 walks. The batting average (273) and OBP (416) continue to climb but the slugging just isn’t there (398). Sounds kind of like Detroit’s current first sacker.

Erie 1 Harrisburg 2
Andrew Miller made his first start since his Detroit appearance and allowed 4 hits and 1 run over 8 innings. He walked 3 and fanned 5 and induced 18 ground ball outs.Jeff Larish had 2 singles and a walk. Kody Kirkland hit his 4th homer.

Palm Beach 4 Lakeland 8
Ovandy Suero had 3 hits (and surprisingly only 1 stolen base). Wilkin Rameriez homered and singled. Burke Badenhop allowed 1 run on 7 hits over 7 innings with 1 walk and 3 K’s. Cameron Maybin sat out today and only pinch ran yesterday. I’ll see what I can find.

West Michigan 3 Beloit 2
Ryan Strieby doubled and singled while Jeff Kunkel added 3 hits. Chris Cody returned to his dominant form with 10 K’s and no walks in 8 innings of 2 run ball.

  1. I see the Twins fans are losing BatGirl — I think sometimes funny, sometimes not but Twins fans miss her already. Inspired me to drop you a note on how much I enjoy the blog, especially the minor league wrap, even when it doesn’t generate many comments. Thanks.

  2. I checked out Batgirl’s blog and found it hilarious and well-written. Had never heard of it before but will surely be missed. Also, the games you can play are great!
