Tigers Minor League Wrap – 5/21/07

Charlotte 5 Toledo 6 11 innings
Chris Maples was the only Hen with 2 hits, one of them a triple. Chris Shelton singled and walked, while Timo Perez doubled and walked. Ryan Raburn had a hit and 2 walks. Yorman Bazardo allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. After Cory Hamman allowed 1 run in 1 2/3 innings, the rest of the pen (Preston Larrison, Vic Darensbourg, Aquilino Lopez, and Jeremy Johnson) combined for 5 1/3 scoreless innings.

Erie 5 Harrisburg 4
Matt Joyce doubled and homered for the Seawolves. Mike Hollimon added 2 hits. Eddie Bonine pitched 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with a 3/1 K:BB ratio.

Lakeland 4 Vero Beach 15
Ryan Roberson collected his 9th homer, one of his 3 hits on the night. Cameron Maybin added a couple of singles. While the batting average and obp remain high for Maybin, he hasn’t been getting extra base hits and his slugging is down to 487. Still a respectable number for sure, but off the lofty heights of earlier in the year. Elezar Aponte was rocked to the tune of 10 runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

West Michigan 2 Beloit 8
Deik Scram had 3 of the Cap 5 hits in this one. Jeramy Laster hit his 3rd homer to plate one of the 2 runs. Lauren Gagnier allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, 4 K’s, and 3 walks over 6 innings.

  1. I’ve been concerned about Maybin for a while. He’s not driving the ball.

    60 GB’s
    10 Line Drives
    25 Fly Balls.

Not the power that I was expecting from him. And it’s not like he’s moved up to Erie and struggled so the “real young for the level” argument, I don’t think applies fully here.

  2. And I was just looking and his SLG is skewed by the home ball park where he’s slugging is .547 while on the road it’s .431. Yikes.

  3. I haven’t looked, but didn’t Maybin hit all his homers in a 3 day span? I believe so and I believe they were at home. If that’s the case it might be coincidence instead of home ballpark. Not sure though.

  4. I don’t know, Billfer, you could be right.

Just checked, he’s hit 3 HR’s at home, 1 on the road. Doubles are 5 vs. 2 in home vs. road. He hit all 4 HR’s in April and hasn’t homered since April 17th. So it’s possible it’s coincidence.
