In the series opener they’ll face Brian Bannister. Bannister has made 2 starts this year, and he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in each start. He did rack up some big pitch totals with 82 in 4 1/3 in his first start and 99 in 6 2/3 in the 2nd.

The Tigers will send out Justin Verlander. Verlander has a 1.36 career ERA over 33 innings against the Royals.

  1. So…it looks like we may get to the bullpen quite quickely today. Does anyone know the strength of the Royal’s bullpen?

  2. The Royals pen is very poor. That said, Bannister will probably go 8 strong on the strength of billfer’s pregame jinx.

  3. Oh, to be connected again. Had to move, the phone broke and the monitor took a dump all in the same week and the cable won’t be on til next week. Hope the game is on radio tonight. Boy, I sure have missed Tigers Weblog.

  4. I’m hoping the Bilfer jinx works the other way. Bilfer refers to “big pitch totals.” Hopefully, that means Banister will get knocked out early with a low pitch count.

  5. Verlander looking good so far. And seems like Guillen’s at full strength too. 1270 made it sound like his arm was hanging off at the shoulder in their pre-game.

  6. This is another thing I’ve been looking for this year’s team to do–not just beat but beat up weaker teams. Not just win, but dominate. So far no jinx here tonight–Bannister lifted early with a (relatively) high pitch count and poor bullpen.

  7. Quiet night on the DTW – and that’s fine by me, since it’s probably because the team is working nicely so far.

    Welcome back, Kathy.

  8. Cleveland and Baltimore 2-2 in the 10th. Let’s go O’s! Don’t take that sweep personally. 🙂

  9. So it still ends up being a save situation. That’s all right. Go get ’em Jonesy!
