The Tigers released some updated ticketing numbers today. As of the start of business today, the Tigers have sold 17,830 full season equivalent season tickets. That’s up from 9500 last year. Plus, in the first weekend of individual game sales they sold 86,606 tickets. That pushes the paid attendance to 1,530,836. As a point of reference that surpasses the 1.37 million they drew in all of 2003 and the 1.50 million they drew in 2002.
Winning does wonders.
Prolly some of it has to do with them changing the full season ticket packages, we’ve gotten the 21 game(if I remember correctly) the last few years, and this year I think they bumped it up to 27.
If you plan on going to at least two games/month, I strongly advise buying a plan and selling the tickets you don’t want. (Can almost guarentee they will sell out or come close to it June-August). The parking and playoff priority (didn’t use it last year 🙁 ) are uber complements that are hard to find elsewhere.
On a side note, the new MLB pictures are up and anyone interested in the stark contrast between old and new Magglio look no further…

Slightly off-topic: Did anyone see the news that Comerica is moving its HQ to Dallas? This is pie-in-the-sky, but wouldn’t it be great if the Tigers found a way to forfeit the corporate $ and rename Comerica Park “Harwell Park”?
Just moving the HQ might not change the name of the park — see GM Place in Vancouver where the Canucks play, for example — but it does open up the possibility. I’d bet that both Comerica and Tigers want to keep the name, although for different reasons.
fyi — Comerica predecessor was founded in Detroit 158 years ago yesterday.
I would love a ballpark named after Ernie Harwell.

I think they are going to top the club record of 2.7 million. Its going to take several sellouts given the likely lower attendance in April again, but if they can get out of April averaging around 30,000 I think its a lock if they stay competitive.
A season ticket base like they have now means that every game should top 20,000. What will hurt them though is that they only have 22 home dates total in June and July, 2 of their biggest months. Meanwhile there are 14 home tilts in September, with even there being a pennant chase saw a drop-off in attendance last year. It’s just harder when the kids are in school.
Last season they averaged 34.5 thousand per game in September. Lets say that they averaged 38 thousand per game in June/July and 34.5 thousand per game in September.
That would be 836,000 in June/July and 483,000 in September. A total of 1,319,000 people in those three months.
They have 45 games in April, May, and August. If they average 30,688.9 people during those months they will be at exactly 2.7 million.
Basically I repeat with high expectations all season IF the team stays competitive I think they will top 2.7 million.

Good post. This is incredible. I have always been a Tigers fan and when they sucked, I didn’t want to go, what was the point. Now, I am trying to fit the game into my schedule. Winning does wonders. And this team kind of reminds me of the Pistons cause the players all have pretty cool personalities.
