Spring Training: Phillies at Tigers

For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land. – Song of Solomon 2:11-12
Play Ball!

It seemed only appropriate to channel Ernie Harwell with the first radio broadcast of the year today.

I won’t be doing game threads for all of spring training, but I wanted a reason to post the voice of the turtle.

Game time 1:05pm.

    Looks like Gary Sheffield has gotten his first HR in a Detroit uniform.

    Was at the game (I live / work in Sarasota). Crowd was very into the entire game, and loved when Verlander took the mound, and really loved when Sheffield hit the homer. It was also nice to Zumaya come in late in the game (7th I think) and seem to be on his game already. I’ll be back there on Saturday, yee-ha.

    My photo gallery of today’s game

    One of them I believe is a pic of the ball nearing Shef’s bat on the home run… Here

    Verlander pitched outside of his Spring rotation, J. He was spared the trip to Port St. Lucie yesterday, and he’ll pitch Monday. So I that’s why he was limited to 1 today rather than 2.

    Knobler: 2. Chad Durbin started today, because Leyland decided to spare Justin Verlander the trip. Verlander will throw an inning tomorrow.

    And oh yeah, how sweet was it to see Maroth pitch two scoreless innings? I know spring games don’t mean anything, but still.
