In the best interest of ratings

Remember way back in the ALCS when it was going to be too cold to play baseball at night in Detroit? Bud said that the game had to be moved to 4:30 and the move was all because of the weather:

“Would you rather play at 4:30 in the afternoon or at 8:15 and go to midnight? The answer’s obvious,” Selig said. “This is a decision based on weather, and not based on anything else.”

.

I guess that only applies to cold weather and not rain. Looking at Accuweather, there is only a 40% chance of precipitation in the late afternoon in St. Louis as opposed 65% during primetime. If you move up the start time, you can always wait out a rain delay even longer. Or maybe due to forecast, try scheduling the first pitch for 8:00 instead of showing a half hour of insipid commentary, commericials, and commercials poorly masked as entertainment.

Man I need this series to get started again.

  1. Agreed. This is getting pathetic. I was really really really looking forward to the Saturday parties near Comerica. There’s no way that the atmosphere will be the same if this gets bumped to sunday/monday or monday/tuesday.

And it’s clearly changing the complexion of the series.

  2. Fox/MLB’s handling of the World Series really is getting more and more ridiculous every year. I was at game 2 in Detroit, and was pretty appalled when Johnny Cougar trotted out to play his Chevy commercial song before the game.

  3. Billfer,

I was thinking this exact same thing last night. I thought about posting it, but didn’t want to get hammered by the people that would be at work and unable to see the beginning of an afternoon game.

I too, agree with the “pregame show” as being a waste of time. It’s just another half-hour for Fox to cram more ads down our parched throats (man, why am I so thirsty for a beverage advertised by Clydesdale horses?).

  4. It only gets better if the series makes it back to Detroit.

Saturday and Sunday will be godawful days for baseball (let alone NIGHT baseball). Saturday morning will start out in the early 40’s with steady or falling temps and a stiff wind. Sunday calls for an afternoon HIGH of 38.

  5. I don’t care about the weather…I just want to watch some baseball. These losses are even harder to take when you have the added day. I need this nasty taste out of my mouth…please let em play!

  6. Yeah…it sucks we will probably miss our weekend games. That would have been a blast. As for the crowd, I swear we are more into the game the colder and wetter it is. On the bright side of things, we will get to watch the away games at our local watering hole with no worries about work the next day…(most of us anyways)
