They're not baseball fans, they're "TV executives" with no sports clue whatsoever. They showed the Astros / Mets here, too (Florida). That, in itself, was ridiculous. Then, with the rain delay, we had to suffer, and I mean suffer, thru the Cubs / Nats for awhile. It was disgusting. I couldn't even watch it on mlb.com; I was totally shut out...... What I do know is: Miner's last 3 or 4 starts have not been good. He did fine when first brought up (maybe his first 4 starts), but has definitely faded his last 3 or 4. Here's his skinny: prior to June 30 - 5 starts, 31.1 IP, 2.59 ERA. Now: 9 starts, 48.2 IP, 4.07 ERA. At least we didn't lose any ground, both the Sox and Twins lost. No harm, no foul..... I agree with Lou, it looked like Scutaro attempted to push Placido's hand off the bag, but i'm not sure it accually came off. From my view on TV and my limited lip-reading availibility, the Ump was saying, "YOU WERE OFF THE BAG." it looked like Placido and the Ump were arguing about if the hand was on the bag or not, so Placido thought that he kept his hand on the bag. Also, the Ump looked for a while, then pointed at something, and called him out. I'm not sure what he pointed at. It was a really delayed call. He was definetaly innitially safe however. But, it's not conclusive. Plus, I'm assuming it's against the rules to push a player off the base like that, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
