Dmitri Young hurting

Dmitri Young left tonight’s game with a strained right quadricep. It’s the same injury that slowed him in spring training. It sounds like this could be an ongoing struggle all season. The Tigers could use another left handed bat to fill the DH role. I hear Carlos Pena is still available…for now.

UPDATE: According to the post game show, this sounds like it will be more than a day to day injury. At the same time there is no news about DL time.

If he does hit the DL possible replacements are Josh Phelps, Alexis Gomez, and Don Kelly are possibilities.

  1. Beck (MLB.com) said the spring training injury was in his left quadricep, which means he’s got recent injuries in both legs now. Who might get called up if he goes on the DL?

  2. I just logged onto MLB.com and took a look at Today’s (Sat.) lineup. What kind of lineup is this? Why sit pudge and Maggs on the same day?

Looks like this Gomez dude got the call.

  3. I think I have my answer to the lineup question:

Cleveland starter is Fausto Carmona. It’s the kid’s first start and I guess Leyland thinks he can get away with a starless lineup.

  4. Well, the starless lineup thing didn’t work. Seems like I recall several recent minor league call-ups shutting us down late last year, too. Can be a disadvantage to some extent, I suppose–not having any scouting information on a pitcher.
